Glenmorangie Back to Whisky Reviews
Glenmorangie 18 Yr (Highland – Northern)
Glenmorangie Single Highland Malt Whisky is famous for its complexity. Few whiskies can boast such a range of subtle notes and flavours but when it comes to finding them all, you have to know where to look – and, more importantly, how to look.[1] This is one of the last bottles available in BC.
Jim Murray – 87 – n. big citrus presence: fresh and sparkling; t. big, yet somehow subdued, as though on best behavior. The sweet fruit dominates through a silky sheen, though the malt recovers; f. the oak battles grimly for control, but the malt holds fast supported by the fruit. The finale is a pure custard tart. Lovely; b. a real sweet smoothie.[2]
Michael Jackson – 80 – n. sherry, mint, walnutrs, sappy, oaky; t. sherryish and sweet at first, more walnuts, then the whole pot-pourri of spiciness; f. aromatic, nutty, lightly oaky. [3]
Michael Jackson – 80 – n. spicy (cinnamon, walnut, sandalwood?), with some flowery sweetness, fresh, a whiff of the sea, enticing; p. spicy, flowery and malty-sweet tones that are creamy, almost buttery; f. long and rounded.[3]
Jim Murray – 94 – n. perhaps the most enigmatic aroma of them all: delicate yet assertive, sweet yet dry, young yet oaky: a malty tone poem; t. flaky oakiness throughout…..hint of smoke; f. amazingly long for such a light dram, drying from the initial sweetness but with flaked almonds amid the oakier, rich cocoa notes; b. remains one of the greatest single malts: a whisky of uncompromising aesthetic beauty from the first enigmatic whiff to the last teasing tantalizing gulp. Complexity at its most complex. [2]
