Peat Proposal (3D First Edition)

Moine Mhor (3D Second Edition)

Celtic Nations

10 year old

Jackie – Sweet, flowers on the nose.  Finish – honey lingers on the lips. Adding a splash of water really brings out the flavours, more complex, orangey notes.  Grows on you the more you drink. (86)

Aidan – Fruity, grassy nose. Fiery. Splash of water really opened up the whisky. Orange, honey, no peat. (84)

Leroy - A sweet nose and a pleasant, fruity (apple, grape) taste. Cutting with water brings the fruit flavours to the forefront. A long finish (but not "breath taking") (85)

15 year old (First Edition)

Jackie – Nose is sharper than the 10, and sweet (sherry?).  Bananas, creamy and sweet on the palate.  Became more flowery with a splash of water, sweeter.  Gentle finish, doesn’t linger long, but enjoyable. (89)

Aidan – Pungent, almost acrid nose.  When cut with water, grassy and creamy palate.  Full flavoured. (88)

Leroy - A sharper nose than the 10 Year Old. An "old style" heather/malt taste. Smoother and more prominent fruit taste after being cut with water. Enjoyable! (89)

15 year old (Second Edition)

Jackie – Nougat, oranges and sweet sherry, spices, but not as sweet as the first edition.  Not as good with a splash of water, basically dilutes the flavours. (91)

Aidan – Spicy nose, full bodied, subtle peat and smokiness.  Creamy, sulatanas?. Water wiped it out. (91)

Leroy - Pleasant, almond-nougat nose. Lots of character with a fiery, spicy taste. Cutting with water ruins the experience. (90)

Rocks

Jackie – Sweaty feet and popcorn on the nose.  Carmel and medicine on the palate.  Finish tasted like old lipstick.  Very disappointing.  (73)

Aidan – Microwaved popcorn, carmel nose.  Weak. Insipid. (67)

Leroy - A horrible nose (think slightly over done microwave popcorn) and a disappointing palate made tasty this whiskey a poor experience. Another bottle? No!! (72)

Peat Proposal

Jackie – Initially, nose was like baby barf.  The palate was peaty, slightly sweet and smoky.  The finish was long, slightly sweet and woody.  Addition of a splash increased peat.  Baby barf odour dissipated when the bottle was left open, but initial odour affected the score! (77)

Aidan – Baby puke on the nose.  Huge peat, really belies the nose.  Addition of water reduced baby puke odour, more rubbery. (82)

Leroy - A peaty, fiery with some fruity notes - not too shabby. However, a horrible nose (baby puke!) soils the experience. (79)

Moine Mhor

Jackie – Peat on the nose. Peat on the palate, but not iodiney.  Peat keeps growing on the finish.  Addition of a splash of water brings out carmel in the palate and flowers on the nose. A very enjoyable dram! (91)

Aidan – Nose weak but not offensive.  Spectacular palate, peat, vanilla, fruity. Opened up nicely when cut. (87)

Leroy - A week nose, but more pleasant than the first edition -- hence the better score. (84)

Celtic Nations

A blend of Bruichladdich 1994 and medium peated Irish whisky (from the Cooley distillery) and some Port Charlotte.  It was supposed to be the first in a series of 9 Celtic Nations bottlings but the the process of blending the scotch and the Irish spirits has been banned by the SWA so this will be only one. "Of interest to whisky enthusiasts and aspirational celts everywhere" say Bruichladdich! Limited to 7,200 bottles.

Tasting Notes - Unexpectedly good. Simple, but rich. A perfect pairing of honey irish and peaty islay. Best tasted neat.

Celtic Nations (Bruichladdich, Cooley, Port Charlotte) (limited) 46%vol. 0.7l
