Scottish Rite Fundraiser Gala, June 2, 2007 The fundraiser gala was held at the Masonic Centre at 7th & Granville in Vancouver on June 2, 2007. What a classy event! They rolled out the red carpet, had complimentary valet parking, and had spared no expense on this black tie affair. During the cocktail hour, a magician (Yurri) moved through the crowd wowing everyone, while a 6 piece ensemble played classical music. The silent auction lined the east and north walls of the ballroom, and was a crowded place all evening. Jackie and Aidan hosted a scotch tasting bar. There were 13 whiskies to taste, with all proceeds going to the fundraiser. Whiskies included: Auchentoshan, Glenmorangie 10 and 18, Highland Park 15 and 18, Ardbeg 10, Caol Ila 15, Port Ellen 25, Glenrothes (vatted malt), and Balvenie Doublewood. The Scotch bar raised over $600 in sales, and an email auction of the left over whiskies will be conducted - contact Aidan by June 10 2007 to be included. During dinner, local band Alma Libra played. Dinner consisted of a salad course (mixed greens with a strawberry vinaigrette dressing); soup (prawn bisque, loaded with prawns); beef tenderloin, cooked medium rare to perfection and served with a red wine reduction, potatoes O'Brian, carrots and asparagus; finished with a dessert of a pastry flute with whipped cream. A swing band played music as the crowd danced and placed the final bids on the silent auction.
