March 2009 - Frostbite

March is here….and it is still cold in Vancouver! We had wet snow on Saturday and my son said “build a snowman” – he’s two…and doesn’t know it should be warm here by now!  Maybe that’s why I thought I’d look up some different recipes for frostbites…..

The first one I came across sounds really good:

Frost Bite

2 oz. Vodka
1 1/2 oz. White Cranberry Juice
3/4 oz. Inniskillin Ice Wine

Shake and strain into sugar rimmed glass
Sink 1/2 oz of Creme de Cassis

Serve with a side of frozen grapes

The second recipe was from the same site:

FROSTBITE MARTINI

2 ounces Vodka
1/2 ounce Inniskillin ice wine
1/2 ounce white cranberry or white grape juice
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon simple syrup
Superfine sugar
A twist of lemon
1 teaspoon Creme de Cassis
Five or six seedless grapes, frozen

Fill a shaker with ice. Add the vodka, ice wine, juices and syrup. Give it a good shake and pour into a chilled martini glass rimmed with sugar. Twist the lemon over the drink to release its oils, then garnish the rim of the glass with it. Add the cassis and let it sink to the bottom of the glass. Serve the frozen grapes in a dish on the side.
Makes 1 drink

After that, they were all tequila recipes, which don't excite me as much.... I had a tequila night back in 1984, summer, Side Door......say no more.  Anyway, here’s an example, if tequila and sweet creamy drinks are your thing.

 Frostbite

2 oz. White Tequilla
1/2 oz. White Creme de Cacao
1 oz Blue Curacao
2 oz. Cream

Combine ingredients in a shaker filled with ice, shake and pour into a chilled cocktail glass.

Here’s to a very warm and sunny spring, Vancouver.

Cheeeeeeers!
