Downtown

  • Ceili's Irish Pub, 670 Smithe Street (former Sky Bar).  Excellent food, very friendly waitresses.  A good make over of the former club.

  • Doolan's Irish Pub, 654 Nelson Street. 604-605-4343 - a regular stop over on the Boxing Day Pub Crawl, this is a great Irish Bar. The food is good, the service is excellent....and the beer is fresh.  Large pub upstairs with dancing and live music in the Cellar, downstairs.

  • Jester's Grill & Tap Room - 608 Dunsmuir St. 604-694-2233.  Run by the same people as Smiley O'Neal's Pub, this location goes from casual pub by day to a stylish lounge by night.

  • Kingston Taphouse & Grille 755 Richards Street. 604-681-7011 - a favourite spot for some food on the bi-annual pub crawl!  The re-incarnation of the Rose and Thorne, the downstairs is a great spot to play pool, darts or just hang out. Excellent food.  Upstairs provides a lounge area, a restaurant area, and of course, the city's largest outdoor patio - a great place to meet on a hot summer night. Highly recommended for an enjoyable night out with a group of friends.

  • The Lennox Pub - They used to serve over-priced and under-sized Guinness here. However a recent visit showed they have improved - they are serving 20 oz pints! Staff are very friendly.

  • Malone's and the Side Bar, 525 Seymour Street 604-681-1625.  The Side Bar is an extension of Malone's, with its own entrance off Seymour.  Malone's is undergoing renovations, but are still open.  The wall between the former restaurant side and the pub side is gone....it is one big bar now. They still have the "penalty box", and a pool table. Good friendly atmosphere.

  • Railway Club 579 Dunsmuir Street, 604-685-5585 - a favourite for all of us over 35! A great place to see up and coming local bands. A great place for a quiet game of darts. A great place for a quiet chat.  The Railway has a small stage and small dance floor perfect for intimate gigs with great local bands.  Past the bar and at the opposite end of the room is the dart area. Through the double doors (being careful not to interrupt the dart player's crucial shot!) is the back room. The clientele are as diverse as the bar, with all walks of life gathering here for a pint of good draft beer or one of their world-renowned espresso martinis. Hours of operation are as follows: Monday - Thursday, noon 'til 2am. Friday, noon 'til 3am. Saturday, 4pm - 3am, Sunday, 4 pm - midnight.

  • Steamworks, Gastown 375 Water Street, Vancouver, BC, Canada V6B 5C6 Ph: 604.689.2739
    - Good beer brewed on the premises.  Good food, laid-back atmosphere. Get there early on Friday's to beat the after-work crowd. Click here for the complete drink list.

  • Yaletown Brewing Company - The good old Yale Town.  Home of the half-price beer and pizza Sundays. Home of the Yipee IPA.  Excellent brewed-on-the-premises beer. Friendly and courteous staff. Good food. The dart board is a bit beat up (since our last visit at least), and is usually blocked by video game players. A great place to meet....especially in winter with the beautiful big fireplace.  Iain Hill's latest seasonal will be on tap at Yaletown Brewing starting tomorrow, March 16. It's a hoppy porter with Amarillo & Columbus hops in the finish.

Kitsilano

  • Billy Bishop - the best kept secret in Kits Point! Located on Laburnum, just off Cornwall is the Billy Bishop Legion.  Steeped in history, it not only boasts the best collection of war memorabilia, it is also has its own resident ghost.  They have Celtic music jams on Tuesdays, Roast Beef dinner Fridays, followed by Bea on the piano, and live music Saturdays.  There's a dart board, and a small TV off in the corner. Its a great little spot. Check it out!
  • Frog & Firkin - located on Broadway just east of Maple, this restaurant/bar is popular during hockey games because of the number of TVs and popular in the summer for its large patio. It has a wide selection of draft beer, and a great "pub grub" menu.  They are also family-friendly.
  • Regal Beagle - this little gem on the west side is also on Broadway between Vine and Yew.  It doubled in size after taking over the adjacent restaurant . Also a popular spot for TVs and for the patio.
  • Bimini's Tap House - still closed!
  • Darby's - another long-time Kits hot spot, Darby's is further west along 4th avenue at MacDonald St.  Darby's has live music on the weekend, has two dart boards and a pool table. There are also numerous TVs and an outdoor patio upstairs.
  • Wolf and Hounds - an Irish pub with a great pub menu - serve great beer on tap and serve a great Irish Breakfast on Sundays.  French Canadian and Acadian music on Thursdays, Saturday blues and jazz.
  • Jerimiah's - Formerly known as Jerry's Cove, Jeremiah's has also been around for a long time.  Many TVs, a pool table and a dart board make up the entertainment.

  • Cheshire Cheese - The Cheshire Cheese is another restaurant with a pub feel.  Its a great place to bring the family and have a good pint. There is one at 39th and Arbutus and another at about 29th and Dunbar.  Both serve British-inspired food and serve Guinness and Caffray's on tap.

  • Brewery Creek Cold Beer and Wine Store 3045 Main St., Vancouver, BC 872-3373 - although not a pub, it's the best place to get good microbrew and import beers - better than the liquor store as they Special Order good beer. A MUST for all Dipsophiles!
  • WHIP Gallery Restaurant - It's a restaurant, but on Sundays at 4 pm, it feels more like a pub! Great atmosphere, great food, and even better beer. See our review.
